I’m not sure why the bucket. With velocity stacks you’re making an air column with a given resonant frequency, but I don’t think trying to make a resonant column that pulses eight times as fast and then sits on top of ordinary inlet runners is practical, so that’s probably not happening here. Maybe it’s just to get cool air?

I’ve seen air tubes like that hooked up to a ductwork system that pulls air from outside the building. Maybe it’s just not set up that way in the photo?
